Sargassum seaweed have been affecting the coasts of Martinique and the Caribbean. Health, the economy, tourism, and quality of life: Antilla is following this long-term issue.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <div class=\"dgl-body\"><div class=\"wrap\">\n    <p class=\"chapo\">Brown patches on the horizon, deserted beaches, the smell of rotten eggs: Sargassum has become one of Martinique\u2019s biggest challenges. It\u2019s a phenomenon that comes from the open sea, with very real consequences for residents.<\/p>\n          <h2><span class=\"n\">01<\/span>A scourge from the sea<\/h2>\n      <p>Since the 2010s, huge rafts of <strong>Sargassum<\/strong> drift from the tropical Atlantic to the Caribbean. Their seasonal but unpredictable strandings transform entire bays into brown, foul-smelling expanses.<\/p>      <p class=\"pull\">\u00abAn endless tide\u2014one we must learn to respond to.\u00bb<\/p>          <h2><span class=\"n\">02<\/span>A public health issue<\/h2>\n      <p>As they decompose, algae release gases, including'<strong>hydrogen sulfide<\/strong>, whose emissions are causing discomfort to nearby residents and raising serious health concerns. Schools, homes, and businesses located near the affected coastlines are directly affected.<\/p>                <h2><span class=\"n\">03<\/span>Collection and Recycling<\/h2>\n      <p>Collection at sea and on land, floating booms, attempts to <strong>valuation<\/strong> (compost, materials, energy): Solutions are hard to find and difficult to fund.
