c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire l\u2019ensemble des zones o\u00f9 l\u2019eau est pr\u00e9sente \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat solide, se sont concentr\u00e9s sur des aspects pr\u00e9cis de cette derni\u00e8re : glaces de mer, <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencepost.fr\/la-surface-de-la-calotte-groenlandaise-sassombrit-a-un-rythme-inquietant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calottes polaires<\/a>, manteau neigeux, perg\u00e9lisol, etc. Dans une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente, un groupe de chercheurs a d\u00e9sormais consid\u00e9r\u00e9 la cryosph\u00e8re dans sa globalit\u00e9 et quantifi\u00e9 son \u00e9volution entre 1979 et 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s2\">Il s\u2019agit de la premi\u00e8re \u00e9valuation holistique accomplie \u00e0 ce jour dans un seul et m\u00eame cadre de travail, permettant un suivi globalis\u00e9 d\u2019une pr\u00e9cision sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent. Le papier est paru dans la revue scientifique <a href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1029\/2020EF001969\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earth\u2019s Future<\/a>\u00a0le 16 mai dernier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s3\">La cryosph\u00e8re plan\u00e9taire et son \u00e9volution r\u00e9cente<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">Les donn\u00e9es travaill\u00e9es par les scientifiques montrent que la surface occup\u00e9e par la cryosph\u00e8re <\/span><span class=\"s3\">a recul\u00e9 de 87 000 km\u00b2 par an<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> en moyenne sur la p\u00e9riode d\u2019\u00e9tude. Ce recul est sans surprise en corr\u00e9lation avec la hausse moyenne des temp\u00e9ratures et tend \u00e0 s\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer. Toutefois, une asym\u00e9trie notable existe entre les deux h\u00e9misph\u00e8res. Aussi, on recense <\/span><span class=\"s3\">une perte de 102 000 km\u00b2 par an dans l\u2019h\u00e9misph\u00e8re nord<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, l\u00e9g\u00e8rement compens\u00e9e par <\/span><span class=\"s3\">un gain de 14 600 km\u00b2 par an dans l\u2019h\u00e9misph\u00e8re sud<\/span><span class=\"s2\">. Cette l\u00e9g\u00e8re tendance \u00e0 la hausse r\u00e9sulte essentiellement d\u2019une extension de la glace de mer dans le secteur de la mer de Ross, probablement en lien avec l\u2019afflux d\u2019eau de fonte (froide et peu sal\u00e9e) depuis le continent Antarctique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">Les changements mis en exergue par l\u2019\u00e9quipe de chercheurs sont d\u2019un int\u00e9r\u00eat tout particulier puisqu\u2019ils impliquent une diminution du pouvoir r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant des surfaces oc\u00e9aniques et continentales consid\u00e9r\u00e9es. En effet, lorsque la glace et la neige reculent, elles laissent place \u00e0 un substrat plus sombre, <\/span><span class=\"s3\">absorbant plus fortement le rayonnement solaire et participant \u00e0 r\u00e9chauffer encore plus le syst\u00e8me climatique<\/span><span class=\"s2\">. On parle de r\u00e9troaction de l\u2019alb\u00e9do pour d\u00e9signer ce cercle vicieux. Par ailleurs, le transfert d\u2019eau depuis les surfaces terrestres vers l\u2019oc\u00e9an contribue \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau des mers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span
