On April 11, 2025, in Cayenne, the Grand Port Maritime de la Guyane (GPM-Guyane) received a 3.1 million euro loan from the Banque des Territoires. This loan is intended to support the expansion of its logistics infrastructure through the acquisition of a strategic plot of land, designed to support the growth of its operations and strengthen its role in regional trade.<\/h2>\n

A Land Acquisition to Support Port Development<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This 25-year loan, granted as part of the renewed partnership between Banque des Territoires and GPM-Guyane, will enable the purchase of a plot of land measuring more than 3 hectares in R\u00e9mire-Montjoly, located in the immediate vicinity of the port\u2019s current grounds. This land will be used for future logistics facilities, including warehouses dedicated to consolidated freight.<\/p>\n

This project builds on previous investments: the expansion of the container terminal, the installation of two quay cranes, and the commissioning of a border control station. Together, these improvements are intended to modernize the port\u2019s infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of cargo handling.<\/p>\n

A Stronger Regional Presence<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The issue extends beyond the local area. Improving the logistical capacity of the Port of D\u00e9grad-des-Cannes paves the way for the establishment of short-distance regional shipping routes (TCMD), connecting French Guiana to northern Brazil, Suriname, Guyana, and the French West Indies. This initiative reflects the desire to strengthen connections between the territories of the Guiana Shield and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

Established in 2013, GPM-Guyane comprises the D\u00e9grad-des-Cannes (R\u00e9mire-Montjoly) and Pariacabo (Kourou) facilities. It handles more than 90 % of French Guiana\u2019s commercial cargo. A leading economic player, it complies with international security standards (ISPS) and holds MASE certification. Its development is guided by a 2024\u20132028 strategic plan that integrates logistics performance, ecological transition, and regional benefits.<\/p>\n
