According to a press release issued by government officials, several concrete steps and proposals were adopted to strengthen efforts to combat the high cost of living.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"222\" data-end=\"518\">Chaired by Patrick Plantard, a magistrate and section president of the regional audit offices, Martinique\u2019s Observatory on Prices, Margins, and Revenues (OPMR) presented the findings of its 2024 work and its key priorities for 2025 on April 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"813\" data-end=\"1296\">At the heart of the discussions: monitoring the price-quality shield (BQP) implemented in July 2024, which covered a list of 134 consumer goods. Government agencies conducted 62 inspections at 56 stores across the island, revealing a non-compliance rate of 30 %\u2014a significant decrease compared to the previous year (when it stood at 60 %). These non-compliance issues\u2014primarily related to product labeling or availability\u2014were, according to the press release, quickly corrected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1298\" data-end=\"1642\">Another notable development: the initial results of the objectives-and-resources agreement signed in October 2024 show an average price decrease of 8.4 % across the 54 product categories covered, for the month of January 2025 alone. This agreement brings together the government, economic stakeholders, and representatives of civil society.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"1700\">Toward an Expanded BQP Covering Services and DIY<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1702\" data-end=\"1905\">Among the key proposals for 2025 is <strong data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1799\">the expansion of the BQP to 250 products<\/strong>, which is nearly double the current number. Two new areas for expansion have also been proposed:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1906\" data-end=\"2251\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1906\" data-end=\"2079\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1908\" data-end=\"2079\">The creation of a BQP specific to <strong data-start=\"1944\" data-end=\"1968\">automotive services<\/strong>, including routine maintenance services: brake pads, oil change, battery, tires, shock absorbers\u2026<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2080\" data-end=\"2251\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2082\" data-end=\"2251\">Establishing a BQP <strong data-start=\"2108\" data-end=\"2142\">dedicated to DIY supplies<\/strong>, a demand that is increasingly being voiced by consumers facing price increases in this segment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2258\" data-end=\"2294\">New studies planned for 2025<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2296\" data-end=\"2441\">The OPMR also plans to launch several studies to gain a deeper understanding of prices in sensitive sectors. These include, in particular:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2442\" data-end=\"2625\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2442\" data-end=\"2471\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2444\" data-end=\"2471\">The <strong data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2471\">funeral services<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2472\" data-end=\"2546\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2474\" data-end=\"2546\">The <strong data-start=\"2478\" data-end=\"2507\">building materials<\/strong> (cement, cinder blocks, roofing sheet metal)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2547\" data-end=\"2625\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2549\" data-end=\"2625\">The <strong data-start=\"2552\" data-end=\"2559\">rice<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2563\" data-end=\"2585\">bottled water<\/strong>, two everyday consumer products<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2627\" data-end=\"3021\">The prefect of Martinique has committed to mobilizing the necessary human resources to support this work, in close collaboration with the relevant professionals.
