Following the publication in *Antilla* of Henri (Luc) Pied\u2019s piece \u00abPawol\u2019s initil\u2019s,\u00bb which was devoted to the *Fondas Kr\u00e9yol* article announcing the book\u2019s release Cr\u00e9dit Martiniquais (1922\u20131999). Was Its Demise Inevitable?<\/em> Rapha\u00ebl Confiant chose to respond to Jos\u00e9 Marraud des Grottes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Editor\u2019s Note: The two men have known each other for a long time. Henri Pied is the founder and longtime director of Antilla, while Rapha\u00ebl Confiant was one of those who helped launch the newspaper in its early days. This exchange, therefore, continues between two longtime figures in the Martinique press and intellectual discourse.<\/em><\/p>\n

My dear Henri Pied,<\/strong><\/p>\n

I certainly don\u2019t need to tell you\u2014as one of the leading figures in Martinique\u2019s free press for nearly half a century\u2014that announcing the publication of a book does not automatically mean endorsing its content.<\/p>\n

I am therefore surprised that my website, FONDAS KREYOL, mentioned the publication of the book titled Cr\u00e9dit Martiniquais (1922\u20131999). Was Its Demise Inevitable?<\/em>, by Jos\u00e9 Marraud des Grottes, published by Cara\u00efb\u00e9ditions, should not be construed by you as an endorsement of its content.<\/p>\n

FONDAS KREYOL simply published the back cover of the book without offering any commentary. It has done the same for dozens of other publications concerning our country for nearly sixteen years\u2014first through MONTRAY KREYOL for eleven years, and then through FONDAS KREYOL for the past five years.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, it seems to me that instead of diverting the discussion to another bank based here\u2014whose director had once faced some difficulties, which had led him to go on a hunger strike\u2014 it would have been more beneficial for ANTILLA\u2019s readers if one of your editorial staff had thoroughly analyzed J. Marraud des Grottes\u2019s book and refuted his arguments if they were deemed fallacious.<\/p>\n

Once this undoubtedly brilliant review is published on ANTILLA, please know that we will repost it immediately on FONDAS KREYOL.<\/p>\n
