Pierre Aliker
A physician and politician, he was a close friend of Aimé Césaire and served as his first deputy mayor in Fort-de-France for decades. A veteran of Martinican political life, he passed away at the age of 106. Antilla dedicates this special feature to him.

02Césaire's First Deputy
A pillar of the Martinique Progressive Party, Pierre Aliker becomes the first deputy from'Aimé Césaire at City Hall in Fort-de-France, a position he held for decades. Discreet and loyal, he was one of the closest and most steadfast companions of the champion of Négritude.
03The Dean
Died in 2013 at the age of 106 years, Pierre Aliker was for many years the elder statesman of Martinican politics. His longevity, his memory, and his loyalty to his ideals made him a respected figure far beyond his own political circle.
04A Family in History
Aliker's name is also that of his brother, André Aliker, a reporter for the newspaper Justice Murdered in 1934 for exposing fraud committed by a powerful figure: another example of Martinican courage. The articles collected below focus on Pierre Aliker—the man and his work.
