Camille Darsieres is already 15 years old.
A lawyer by profession and a tireless advocate of progressive ideals, including His significant political role left a lasting impression on the people of Foyal and Martinique through his determination to defend our identity.
This Tuesday, December 14, marks the anniversary of his passing in 2006, and my memory of him remains vivid—that of a man a man of strong character and a passion for justice, who was deeply committed to enlightening people’s consciences—especially those of the youngest among us—by inspiring them to the desire to expand their research by reading works by authors with a global perspective.
Through her various elected offices, Camille Darsieres was a member of these men of honor, a statesman whose actions were consistent with his words, whether it was a matter of defending the most vulnerable or selflessly contributing to the development of his hometown, alongside Aimé Césaire, the deputy and mayor of Fort-de-France.
On behalf of the City Council—and today more than ever—I would like to honor his memory and express our deepest gratitude to him for having championed universal culture.
Camille, my friend Fort-de-France and Martinique owe you a great deal—we won’t forget you.
