To understand the new smartwatches and other professional devices that have been in the spotlight recently, we should look to Silicon Valley and the quantified self movement.
Apple Watch tracks our exercise, monitors our movements throughout the day, monitors how long we’ve been standing, and reminds us to get up and move around if we’ve been sitting for too long—let’s not forget Tim Cook’s line, «Sitting is the new cool.».
What We Like:
- An angled second screen is quite useful.
- Durability is top-notch.
- Better dual-screen software.
- Powerful hardware features.
What We Don't Like:
- Shorter battery life than other options.
- The keyboard and trackpad feel flimsy.
- No native dual-screen support.
- Weighs more than average.
It does this using an accelerometer, a heart rate sensor, and GPS. There are already many smartwatches on the market, such as the Pebble and Apple.
As you tap, scroll, and swipe on your phone, you probably don’t give much thought to the fact that your apps are using electricity—just that they’re draining your battery.
It’s engaging. It’s hopeful. It moves the plot forward.
