As part of the Recovery Plan, a call for projects was issued to support industrial investment.
EMS PROTO responded to this call and received a grant of 1.1 million euros, enabling it to accelerate its plan to relocate its electronic circuit board assembly operations.
The Measure
As part of its efforts to support investment and the modernization of industry, the Directorate General for Enterprises and BpiFrance have launched a call for proposals with the goal of support industrial investment projects in the 8 strategic sectors the following: aeronautics, automotive, nuclear, agrifood, health, electronics, essential inputs for the industry, 5G telecommunications.
This call for proposals also includes a territorial aspect extended to all industrial sectors and offering investment opportunities that can be launched quickly and have significant socioeconomic benefits for the region.
In 2020, the projects of 815 companies were selected under this call for proposals and received a total of 710 million euros.
The Company
EMS PROTO is a SME (small and medium-sized enterprise) from 30 employeesIt is based in Martillac, in the Gironde department.
The company's business, which straddles the digital and industrial sectors, specializes in’assembly of electronic circuit boards ordered directly online by its customers, start-ups or large corporations in the medical, industrial, telecommunications, or aerospace sectors.
The company was quickly affected by the health crisis. In January 2020, EMS PROTO faced significant supply chain issues with its Asian suppliers, and then, two months later, his order book had shrunk to one-tenth of its original size.
The company therefore decided to reach out to its European partners to source supplies and now wishes to expand its assembly and manufacturing operations for certain components directly at its Martillac facility.
What is the EMS PROTO project? Relocate the manufacturing of printed circuit boards and wiring harnesses and launch a Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) program focused on less polluting processes printed circuit board manufacturing.
This project should make it possible to creation of 10 jobs in 2021.

For us, the Recovery Plan is an opportunity to resume the projects we had put on hold in January 2020. With this grant, we are now able to resume our projects under favorable conditions and develop a medium-term vision.
These projects will enable us to be more self-sufficient in a number of the company’s initiatives and create about ten jobs in 2021.
The Recovery Plan will help us uphold our environmental values. While the assembly of electronic circuit boards generates a lot of pollution, we are working to develop processes that consume less energy.
Bringing the assembly of electronic circuit boards back to France allows us to control the hardware and thus produce what our engineers design.
For us, the Recovery Plan means more electronics in France!
